Equipment needed before the session

  1. Computer/laptop to be plugged into the mains – this means that the battery cannot ‘die’ during a session.  Screen size of 15” or larger. 
    1. A tablet or mobile is not suitable for lessons as a replacement for the computer/laptop. 
  2. Broadband – ideally Ethernet plugged in but otherwise wireless will work but is slower
  3. Chrome Browser - other browsers are not recommended
  4. Headphones - this enables less background noise when listening and therefore less distraction. 
  5. Microphone – many external headphones have built-in microphones. 
  6. Webcam – either inbuilt or mounted by /on the computer (optional but can be useful). 

Equipment needed for the session

  1. Desk/table in a room away from distraction, eg, family, pets etc. 
  2. Students should be seated at a suitable desk with their computer in front of them. 
  3. If there are any documents that you would like the tutor to have for the session, please email them before the start of the lesson. Uploading documents at the start of the lesson can be time consuming.
  4. Paper/pens/highlighters/ paper
  5. It can be useful if the student has access to a printer attached to the computer. 

The session

  1. STC will agree a pre-arranged time and date with you beforehand.  This maybe viewed via https://stc.tutorbird.com/ 
  2. Before the session begins could you please make sure that your computer is set up in advance of the time.
  3. The student should join the session at the agreed time. Please make sure that you (or suitable adult) are available in case of any technical issues. 
  4. Please make sure that all phones are put onto silent and that all other applications on the computer are closed – e.g., Facebook, Snap chat etc. 
  5. During the session, students should use the ‘Do not disturb’ feature for all of their other communication applications. 
  6. The sessions maybe recorded enabling students to review points covered for revision purposes. 
  7. As the student is not directly with the tutor for their lesson, the tutor cannot take responsibility for their care.  You will need to accept responsibility for their safety.

Ending the session

  1. The tutor will agree targets for the next session and then end the session at the allocated time. 

Failed call

  1. If the student does not join their lesson at the allocated time, then the tutor will text you ten minutes later. If they have no contact fifteen minutes after the start time of the then this will still count as a session and is chargeable. 
  2. Payments
    • Fees are due at the beginning of each month for booked lessons that month.   
      • In exceptional circumstances fees can be paid weekly by specific agreement with the Centre Director.  These must be paid by the Monday for the upcoming week.
    • All booked lessons are chargeable whether attended or not.

Postponing a Session

  1. If the student is unable to attend their session you should contact the centre at least 48-hours before the booked time by text on 07520 632902 as you would have done for an in-centre session.   
    1. Please give as much notice as possible since we have other students who are waiting for spaces.
  2. If the student is unwell so unable to attend their session at short notice you should contact the centre by text on 07520 632902 as soon as possible.  
    1. Catch-up sessions are offered at the discretion of the Centre Director.  Only one catch-up session (per subject) maybe arranged each half-term.

Catch-up Sessions

  1. If we received prior notice that a student would be unable to attend their session a catch-up session maybe offered at the discretion of the Centre Director.  
    1. Only one catch-up session (per subject) maybe arranged each half-term.
    2. Missed catch-up sessions cannot be rearranged.
